Last night, Sheffield’s Carl (Born 2 B) Wild won the BBBofC Central Area Light Heayweight Title after outpointing James ‘The Slugger’ Tucker of Doncaster.

The Glyn Rhodes promoted fightnight at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield, also included four under-card bouts from local boxers.

Carl Wild (Sheffield) v James Tucker (Doncaster)
10 x 3 Vacant BBBofC Central Area Light Heavyweight Title

It was a cautious start from both men but local-man Wild produced the better work-rate while Tucker ‘eyed-up’ his taller opponent in the opening round. Throughout the fight though, Tucker seemed to be waiting – perhaps to land a ‘bomb’ – while his frustrated corner shouted to him to ‘move his head’ as Wild kept up the jab and straight lefts.
It’s a better round four for the Doncaster man who comes out ‘fired-up’ at the start of the frame – sinking in some solid body-shots. Wild continues with the left which sneaks through the middle of Tuckers guard. Wild secures the points win.

Wild’s record improves to 11 wins (1 by KO) 16 losses (5 by KO) and 5 draws.

Tuckers record now stands at 6 wins (2 by KO) 46 losses (2 by KO) and 3 draws.

Monsoor Wali (Sheffield via Afghanistan) v Steve Spence (Scunthorpe)
6 x 2 Light Middleweight Contest

Wali asserts himself in the third round – landing some decent shots, but sustains a cut to the right brow in the fourth.
A closely fought contest which results in a draw 57-57

Wali’s record now stands at 3 wins (2 by KO) 3 losses and 1 draw.

Spence’s record now stands at 2 wins (1 by KO) 16 losses (3 by KO) and 4 draws.

Sam Sheedy (Sheffield) v Ian Turnbull (Ashington, Northumberland)
4 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

This was scheduled to be a 6 x 2 min contest, but was changed to 4 x 3 as both men stood in the ring. For Sam Sheedy, after a two year lay-off, the extra couple of minutes didn’t matter!

Popular ‘Speedy’ Sheedy ‘flew’ out of his corner as the bell signalled the start of the fight. He launched some big headshots in the second round which sees his opponent stagger momentarily and Turnbull does well to continue. Sheedy’s nose is a mess with blood in the second frame but it doesn’t deter him from unleashing a roundhouse left which just clips Turnbull.
Sheedy gets the points win 40-37 and improves to 5 wins (1 by KO) no losses, while Turnbull drops to 3 wins (1 by KO) 4 losses (1 by KO) and 2 draws.

Dave Fidler (Sheffield) v Rick Boulter (Lincoln)
6 x 2 Middleweight Contest

Fidler put experienced Boulter under pressure at the end of the first round. The local man launched Boulter across the canvas during the second round and Referee Michael Alexander was not impressed!

Both men put in a big effort as they ‘go at each other’ in the fourth and final round.

Fidler gets the points win 60-55 and improves to 3 wins (2 by KO) no losses, while Boulter drops to 1 win 18 losses (2 by KO) and 3 draws.

Daniel Slaney (Doncaster) v Elvis Dube (Derby)
6 x 2 Light Heavyweight Contest

Slaney looked confident in the opening round but he seemed to lose a bit of focus when Dube started landing some slugging shots in the second frame. The Doncaster man sustained a vertical cut at the edge of his right brow (between brows) during the same round and Dube ‘worked at it’. Slaneys corner did a good job of stopping the blood and the cut didn’t prove a problem. A close contest but Slaney gets the points win 58-57 and improves to 3 wins no losses. Dube drops to 4 wins (3 by KO) 12 losses (2 by KO) and 1 draw.
