The Tunisian Olympic team arrived in Dublin last night for a training camp with Ireland at the National Stadium. The African nation has qualified three male and two female boxers for the 30th Olympiad.
Ahmed Mejir, Abderrazak Houya and Yahia Elmekacheri, Maroua Rahali and Rim Jouini will represent their country at London 2012.
Jouini was beaten by Katie Taylor at the AIBA World Women’s Championships in Qinhuangdao, China last month. Taylor won 19-6 en route to winning her fourth AIBA World lightweight title in-a-row.
Rahali, who qualified for the Olympics in the women’s 51kg category, is due to arrive in Dublin on Thursday. The Tunisian flyweight claimed a gold medal at the recent Africa Open Cup in Botswana.
Meanwhile, India, who arrived at the National Stadium last Friday, began their training camp with Ireland this morning. India are using a 12-strong squad to Dublin.
London 2012 Olympians Laishram Devendro Singh, Shiva Thapa, Jai Bhagwan, Manoj Kumar, Vikas Krishan, Vijender Singh and Sumit Sangwan are included in the visiting panel.
Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, John Joe Nevin, Adam Nolan and Darren O’Neill have qualified for London 2012.
The Irish Olympic squad will have their final training camp in Assisi, Italy next month before the 2012 Olympic Games.
