A Birmingham Boxing Trainer is helping young people get a better start in life by providing a new children’s class that teaches boxing, fitness and nutrition.
Paul Webb (WBC Fight Club) is a boxing trainer offering one-to-one sessions for Pro-Boxers and anyone wanting to learn boxing.
Based out of the Butcher’s Shop Gym, Chelmsley Wood, England – Paul is best known for training British former WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight champion – Pele Reid, Female Boxing Champ – Laura Saperstein and Middleweight Alex ‘Sledgehammer’ Strutt.
Some of Paul’s clients asked if he’d train children, hence the new ‘Fight Club Juniors’ was born. The ‘Club’ grew from just three children on a Saturday morning to the now regular attendance of 18 plus.
“What began as me helping out a few clients – has turned in to a club that is growing”, said Paul. “The class is more than just boxing, I have designed a programme of Professional Boxing Techniques, Fitness Circuits and Nutrition Advice. A Nutritionist comes in to give short talks on healthy eating and gives advice to parents about nutrition for all the family.
“I also have two local PCSO’s (Police Community Special Officers) who help out with the class. Their presence in the gym helps the children build a good relationship with the Police from an early age.
“The children have a test every few months to see how they are improving. The examiner is former World Kick-boxing Champion and Actor – Waine Turner. Waine regularly brings his world title belt in for the children to look at – it’s a good way for them to get motivated.
“It’s early days and the Club could really benefit from funding to help keep the cost to a minimum for parents. I would love to be able to offer the classes for free eventually – because I believe the positive atmosphere and focus in the club is helping a lot of the young people who attend.
“But for now, the classes are on Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings and cost £4 per week per child and £2 for any siblings.
“Every child is given their own pair of Gel Quick Wraps when they start. The parents can buy kit from me ‘at cost’ and I also carry spare gloves with me.
“Basically, I am trying to offer the children a better life by them learning a sport, getting fit, understanding correct nutrition, building a relationship with the Police and recognising local officers, meeting inspirational people such as Waine Turner, achieving certificates to frame and be proud of and – for some children – building confidence and giving them something positive to focus on.”

Paul would be especially happy to hear from any businesses who can offer help with gloves/kit to be used at ‘Fight Club Juniors’.
