UK Weekend Roundup

It was a busy weekend of boxing for British Fight-fans.

In Doncaster on Friday, two local boxers fought it out for the vacant British Masters Bronze Heavyweight Title. James ‘Slugger’ Tucker defeated Daniel Slaney by seventh round TKO to win the Belt.

The Carl Greaves promoted fight-night also featured three undercard bouts.

In Motherwell, Scotland, Gary McCallum of Castlemilk outpointed Paul Allison of Stranraer to win the vacant Scottish Area Middleweight Title.

At the Coronet Theatre, London, of Minster outpointed Vygaudas Laurinkus from Lithuania over ten rounds in the Light-Heavyweight division. The Mickey Helliot promoted show featured two undercard bouts.

At Bowlers, Manchester, an all-action headliner saw Shayne Singleton of Colne win the English Light-Welterweight Title by split decision over the holder – Curtis Woodhouse of Driffield.

The Dave Coldwell promoted show also featured seven undercard bouts.

On Saturday, PJ Rowson promoted an afternoon event followed by a fight-night. Boxers past and present celebrated ‘Wolverhampton Civic Hall’s 70 Years of Boxing’.

The evenings’ boxing headlined the vacant English Middleweight Title which saw Thomas Costello of Chelmsley Wood lose out to Bristol’s Danny Butler by tenth round stoppage. The show also featured six fights on the undercard.

In Dundee, Ronnie Clark of Paisley won the Bronze Super-Featherweight Title by second round TKO over Michael Stupart of Hayes, Middlesex.

At Wembley, Darren Barker of Barnet won the IBF Inter-Continental Middleweight Title after Simone Rotolo of Italy retired with a hand injury in the fourth.

Also on the bumper Matchroom Bill, Lee Purdy of Colchester stopped Mexican – Cosme Rivera on a cut in the ninth.

Danny Connor of Hackbridge outpointed Chris Evangelou of Enfield to win the first defence of his Southern Area Light-Welterweight Title.

Liam Shinkwin of Bushy Heath won the vacant Southern Area Lightweight Title on points to Ryan Taylor of Upminster.

Newly-signed George Groves of Hammersmith scored a third round TKO over Dario German Balmaceda of Argentina.

And China Clark of Leeds won the vacant English Cruiserweight Title when Wadi Camacho of Hammersmith via Barcelona retired in the seventh.

The show also featured three undercard bouts.

At the York Hall, Bethnal Green, Leon Senior of Kent won the vacant Southern Area Light-Heavyweight Title by outpointing Danny Couzens of Titchfield. And Michael Devine of Luton won the vacant Southern Area Super-Featherweight Title on points over Dan Naylor of Gants Hill.

In Bolton, Jack Arnfield of Blackpool won the vacant International Masters Light-Middleweight Title by outpointing Gary Boulden of Shepperton. The Steve Wood / VIP Promotions fight-night also featured ten undercard bouts.

Matchroom seem to be on a signing frenzy lately, with George Groves and Ricky Burns the newest recruits to Eddie Hearn’s stable of boxers and another announcement expected tomorrow.

And finally….’Dancing On Ice’ finished this weekend with Olympic Boxer Luke Campbell in third place. Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle won the accolade – winning the public vote over Matt Lapinskas (aka Anthony Moon) of ‘Eastenders fame.
