Rendall Munroe smashed his way back on to the boxing scene last night with a first round demolition of Hungarian – Laszlo Fekete, in front of a packed home-crowd.

Boxing Binman Rendall Munroe had retired from the sport in December, after defeat to Scott Quigg for the interim WBA World Super-Bantamweight Title.

But the former English, Commonwealth, European and WBA international champion continued to frequent Shinfield’s Gym in Alfreton and it wasn’t long before he was training again.

Last night’s impressive first round victory at Lightweight proved he still has something special and he looked very happy to be back.

With huge support from the Leicester crowd, Rendall Munroe got straight to work from the ‘off’ and in less than two minutes Fekete was on his knees.

Referee Rob Chalmers administered the count but the Hungarian looked clearly uncomfortable and – rising at eight – it was waved off.

Rendall Munroe’s record now stands at 25 wins (11 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw. Fekete drops to 6 wins (5 by KO) 2 losses (2 by KO)

The Clifton Mitchell Promotions Show at Club Republic in Leicester also featured eight undercard contests.

Jahmaine Smyle (Leicester) v Tony Shields (Hull)
4 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest

Smasher Smyle scored a points win over ‘loose cannon’ Shields who threw a variety of random shots. Smyle clearly didn’t appreciate his awkward opponent or the uppercuts (!).

Shields tired in the last round and Smyle gets the points win 39-38 to take his record to 8 wins (3 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw

Shields drops to 8 losses, no wins.

Louis Norman (Shepshed) v Peter Mellar (Hungary)
4 x 3 Bantamweight Contest

Wearing a neon pink afro wig – 2Sweet Norman came to the ring amidst a rowdy crowd who will have been delighted with the first round TKO.

Norman improves to 5 wins (1 by KO) no losses, Mellar drops to no wins 5 losses (1 by KO.

Lewis Jones (Leicester) v Ismail Anwar (Huddersfield)
6 x 2 Lightweight Contest

2Slick Jones gets the points win 58-56 in a close contest and improves to 2 wins and 1 draw. Anwar drops to 3 wins (1 by KO) and 2 losses.

Mark Ketnor (Huncote) v James Child (Worthing)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

Ketnor was ‘shoved down’ to the canvas in round one by Child but (rightly) wasn’t subjected to a count. Child comes out on the attack in round two but winces when a notable punch to the nose lands and it immediately starts to bleed. A great all-action last round between these two – both men slugging shots in to the body.

Ketnor wins on points 40-37 and improves to 3 wins 3 losses (2 by KO) and 1 draw. Worthing drops to no wins 4 losses.

Simon Henry (Leicester) v Vaclav Skromach (Newark)
4 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

Czech – Skromach was on the canvas in round two. Henry gets the points win 40-35 and improves to 3 wins (1 by KO) no losses. Skromach drops to 1 win 12 losses (3 by KO).

Sam Sharpe (Loughborough) v Bheki Moyo (Earl’s Court)
6 x 2 Welterweight Contest

Debutant Sam Sharpe spent much of round one messing with his shorts but gets ‘off the mark’ with a points win 60-54. Moyo drops to 54 losses (5 by KO) and 2 draws.

Joe Hockenhull (Leicester) v Bobby Wood (Walsall)
6 x 2 Light Heavyweight Contest

Wood looked embarassed to be on his knees on the canvas in round two, but gets partial revenge with a notable shot in round three which sees the Leicester man wobbled.

Hockenhull gets the points win 59-54 and improves to 5 wins no losses. Wood drops to 4 wins 22 losses (7 by KO).

Ryan Hookway (Glenfield) v Billy Smith (Llanelli, Wales)
6 x 2 Welterweight Contest

Hookway lands a hefty left in round two which sees experienced Smith stumble back from the force. But the Glenfield Boxer has to be content with a points win (60-54) – his sixth win of six on points. Smith drops to 13 wins 140 losses (8 by KO) and 2 draws.
