Lee-Purdy Fails To Make Weight

British Boxer Lee Purdy fails to make weight yesterday as he weighed in against Devon Alexander of Missouri for tonights’ IBF Title Fight in Atlantic City. Purdy was still over the weight limit after two hours and has had to pay a financial penalty. Although the fight will still go ahead – Purdy cannot now win the Title.

Purdy took the fight at just four weeks’ notice when Kell Brook withdrew with an injury.

Earlier this week, the Essex Boxer said, “It’s a bit late notice but I’m in good shape and I’ll be dangerous for 12 rounds. I’m ready to put a big statement out there.

I’m a big underdog in a lot of peoples’ eyes… (but) I watched quite a few of Alexander’s fights – he didn’t really impress me.”

Devon Alexander v Lee Purdy takes place on the Peterson vs. Matthysse Bill taking place Saturday, May 18, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
