At a press conference in London today, Adam Smith (Sky Sports) alongside Team Haye and Team Fury – officially announced the Heavyweight Clash between Tyson Fury and David Haye will take place at the MEN Arena, Manchester, on the 28th September.
Love them or hate them – Haye v Fury is one fight that is whipping fans up in to a frenzy and when tickets went on sale today a reported 10,000 were sold within three hours.
On the Top Table at the packed venue were Tyson’s Uncle and Trainer – Peter Fury, Promoter Mick Hennessy, Adam Smith, David Haye and Adam Booth.
The video footage of the Press Conference is well worth watching! Tyson was in fine form and provided much of the entertainment!
David Haye remained calm and spoke carefully and respectfully of Fury, saying “He deserves this shot……a big strong lad like Tyson will bring out the best in me”.
British, Irish and Commonwealth Champion Tyson, on the other hand, was rather over-enthusiastic when he spoke!
“You’re the dog! I’m chucking you a bone!” he began in a loud, excited manner, “before the Tyson Fury fight – where were you going to go? I’m giving YOU a chance – NOT the other way round!”
Haye gave what seemed an almost forced laugh.
Keen to put on a show – Tyson continued “I can’t wait – he’s a big tart! I don’t fight for fame or fortune” (making reference to Haye’s celebrity status).
Haye laughed and then led the applause, seemingly determined not to lose his cool (that must have been difficult as Tyson continued to mock him).
“One thing you can guarantee with me – is accuracy”, said the former World Heavyweight and Cruiserweight Champion.
Peter Fury was quiet and respectful when he spoke. Mick Hennessy looked to be full of pride for Tyson who he had stuck by for the past few years. “I want Tyson to be seen as the man he is – generous, loyal, kind, honourable…..a smart boxing man,” he said.
Tyson concluded “I always get carried away in everything! Everytime I step in to the ring – everything is on the line. If it gets emotional in [the ring] it’s because it means a lot and means everything in the world for me to win on the night. Winning for me is everything and that’s what I am – a winner!”
Following the press conference, both men were asked to pose for face to face photographs but ‘Joker’ Tyson was reluctant and preferred to ‘fool around’ while Haye looked uncomfortable.
The Heavyweight Contest between David Haye (London) and Tyson Fury (Wilmslow) on 28th September at the MEN Arena, Manchester, will be broadcast live on SkySports HD Box Office.
