Ringside Report: Jason Welborn Vs Max Maxwell

Jason Welborn

It was a great start to the new boxing season at Walsall Town Hall Saturday night, as Errol Johnson (EJKO) promoted a nine-card show which headlined the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight Title fight between Tividale’s Jason Welborn and Max Maxwell of Birmingham.

An exciting fight between these two men saw Welborn get off to the better start. Looking confident and focussed – he found success with the left to Maxwells head and it seemed like it could be an early finish.

But Maxwell came out for the fifth looking determined and Welborn seemed to lose a bit of momentum and was forced to hold on. Welborns nose was bloody in the seventh and he starts to blow, while Maxwell continues to dig in. Maxwell had the better rounds in the second half of this contest, but Welborn clearly had the tenth and final round – pressuring Maxwell back on the ropes.

Not a popular decision it seemed but Welborn got the points win 98-94 to claim the belt.

Welborn improves to 13 wins (5 by KO) 2 losses (2 by KO)
