Results:
Derry Mathews (Liverpool) v Curtis Woodhouse (Driffield)
12 x 3 Commonwealth Lightweight Title
Woodhouse got off to a good start and takes centre ring but Mathews starts to relax in to it quickly and lets the shots go. A good round for Mathews despite Woodhouse finishing the round strongly – forcing the Liverpool man against the ropes as the bell signalled end of round one.
Mathews continues to look in great form – a good stance and very ‘snappy’ with his shots. Woodhouse begins to settle in and has a better round three. Mathews has the busier work-rate but does some holding-on in this round. Both men ‘go for it’ in the fourth round but a sweet right from Mathews sends Woodhouse to the canvas. He gets to his feet but staggers across the ring on ‘jelly legs’ and the fight is stopped by Referee Mark Green.
Mathews retains his Commonwealth belt.
