Cork’s Christina Desmond and Mayo’s Ciara Ginty are guaranteed at least two silver medals at the 2nd AIBA Women’s World Youth and Junior Championships in Albena, Bulgaria.
Desmond, who boxes out of the Macroom BC, completed the double tonight with a unanimous decision over Turkey’s Sema Caliskan in the welterweight class.
She’ll now meet Kazakhstan’s Gauhar Yermekbay in Saturday’s 69kg Youth final.
Earlier today, Ginty, a member of the Geesala BC, beat Yekaterina Annissimova of Kazakhstan on a unanimous decision at the 31-nation tournament to reach the Junior lightweight final.
Turkey’s Esra Yildiz advanced from the corresponding semi-finals to set up Saturday’s 60kg decider.
Mayo light-flyweight Jacqui Lynch was edged out on a split decision by Russia’s Ekaterina Paltceiva today.
The Golden Gloves BC fighter will be taking home bronze from the tournament.
