Canadian Fighters On Top In Montreal “Superman” Card

Adonis Stevenson Tavoris Cloud

This past weekend in Montreal, Canada, Adonis “Superman” Stevenson, (22 wins, 1 loss and 19 knockouts) defeated Tavoris Cloud in his first WBC Light Heavyweight title defence.

This overpowering victory was broadcasted by HBO, who seem to have found in Stevenson a marquee name that they can promote. Even if he is Canadian, eh!

There was nothing Cloud could do to stop Stevenson from imposing his will. The fight was halted after the seventh round as Cloud was unable to see due to cuts above both his eyes.

It was almost prophetic, Stevenson managed to deconstruct Cloud with his boxing ability as opposed to his power, which is exactly what most boxing analysts demanded to see.

Check out Stevenson’s previous first round knockout victory against Chad Dawson and you’ll understand what I mean by his power.

There is no doubt this fight will leave less skeptics out there that say Stevenson is only a brawler and that his only asset is his power punch.

With this outstanding victory, Stevenson is now one of the dominant forces to reckon with in the Light Heavyweight division.

In a tune-up bout, Jean Pascal, (28 wins, 2 losses and 17 knockouts), took to the ring on Saturday against George Blades.

Pascal make short work of Blades as he easily won the bout by technical knockout in the fifth round after he knocked down the American fighter three times in that frame.

Pascal looked sharp and powerful in his victory. At the post-fight press conference, Pascal said his shoulder is feeling great and he is ready to take on Lucian Bute.
What the future holds for these fighters is yet to be determined. We all want to see Stevenson take on WBO champion Sergey Kovalev, but that doesn’t seem likely as the next mandatory opponent is Tony Bellew.

As for Pascal, he has a historic bout against Lucian Bute in January which is long awaited by boxing fans in Canada.

However the future unfolds, one things is for certain, it is a good time to be Canadian at the moment!
