At the Doncaster Dome Saturday night, local man Gavin McDonnell won the British Super-Bantamweight Title final eliminator by Unanimous Points Decision over Josh Wale of Barnsley.

The Stefy Bull promoted fight-night also featured Barnsley’s Andy Townend v Rendall Munroe of Leicester for the English Super-Featherweight Title eliminator. Munroe won on points 98-92.

There were also five undercard bouts.

Gavin McDonnell (Doncaster) v Josh Wale (Barnsley)

12 x 3 British Super-Bantamweight Title Eliminator

‘Outlaw’ Wale takes centre ring while McDonnell stays on the backfoot. Both men use a variety of punches and it’s a closely fought contest throughout, although – for me – McDonnell was the busier and finds more success with lefts and rights to the face of Wale.

Wale came out looking more motivated for the fourth round and nips in some decent body-shots. But the Barnsley man gets caught ‘coming in’ and takes a number of shots to the face.

McDonnell is caught by head-shots in the fifth round but scores with an uppercut at the end of the frame.

Wale sustains a cut to the right eye area (just below the brow) in the seventh.

Both men keep up the pace right to the end. A good all-action contest well deserving of the applause afterwards. McDonnell gets the win on Unanimous Points 118-111; 119-111; 117-113.

McDonnell improves to 10 wins (3 by KO) and 1 draw, while Wale drops to 15 wins (8 by KO) 6 losses (2 by KO) and 1 draw

Andy Townend (Barnsley) v Rendall Munroe (Leicester)
10 x 3 English Super-Featherweight Title Eliminator

Confident Munroe had a worrying ‘blip’ in the seventh round but other than that – had a calm ten rounds against Barnsleys’ Townend. After getting caught in the seventh, he went back to his corner and laughed about it, as if acknowledging it was a silly mistake – but he made Townend pay for it in the eighth. Townend was on his knees after one of Munroe’s trademark body-shots – only to go down again moments later.

Townend saw it out to the final bell with Munroe getting the points victory 98-92.

Munroe improves to 26 wins (11 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw

Townend drops to 7 wins (4 by KO) and 2 losses

Mickey Davies (Stainforth, Doncaster) v Duane Green (Norwich)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Fight was a Draw 57-57

Davies’ record now stands at 4 wins (2 by KO) no losses and 1 draw

Greens record is now 1 win 1 loss and 1 draw

Josh Morgan (Harworth, Yorkshire) v Graham Fearn (York)
4 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest

Morgan wins on points 40-36 and extends his winning record to 4 wins out of 4.

Fearn drops to 5 wins (1 by KO) 15 losses (3 by KO) and 2 draws

Connor Nixon (Hatfield, Doncaster) v Brett Fidoe (Fenton)
4 x 3 Super-Flyweight Contest

Nixon wins on points 40-36

Nixon improves to 6 wins (1 y KO) and 1 loss

Fidoe drops to 2 wins (1 by KO) 6 losses and 1 draw

Fergus Taylor (Newark) v Youssef Al Hamidi (Dewsbury, via Syria)
4 x 3 Light WelterweightContest

Taylor on points 40-36

Taylor improves to 3 wins no losses

Al Hamidi drops to 12 wins (1 by KO) 59 losses (2 by KO) 3 draws.

Harty gets off the mark with a points win 40-36

Rafael’s record drops to 27 wins (5 by KO) 72 losses (21 by KO) and 1 draw
