DeGuardia Looking Forward To Starry, Starry Night

Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing is gearing up for a special evening this Saturday night, with top rated junior middleweight contender Demetrius Andrade challenging for the world title live on HBO and DeGuardia being honored as an inductee into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame.

“Over my more than 20 years promoting, this Saturday night is among the most special evenings,” said DeGuardia. “Having worked with Demetrius since he turned professional, it’s very rewarding to put him in a position to challenge for the world title where the whole world truly will be watching.

“In addition, I’m personally humbled and honored to be inducted into the prestigious Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame. Having promoted a wealth of successful shows during my career in Connecticut and particularly at Mohegan Sun (the host of the Award Ceremony Saturday night), this means a great deal to me.

“I only wish I could attend but I committed to be with Demetrius and must be ringside in Texas for his world title fight. Perhaps the HBO telecast will be a part of the awards and dinner festivities so I can be there on the screen as I will be in spirit”, DeGuardia joked.

DeGuardia’s Star Boxing has brought countless fantastic shows to Connecticut on virtually every TV medium.

Sporting a record of 19-0-0 (13KO’s), the 25-year-old Andrade will challenge Vanes Martirosyan, 33-0-1 (21KO’s), for the vacant WBO Junior Middleweight Title at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The HBO telecast will start live at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Andrade turned professional in October 2008, followed an illustrious amateur career that included representing the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Andrade is co-promoted by Star Boxing and Banner Promotions.

Joining DeGuardia in the 2013 Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame class will be boxing commentator extraordinaire Al Bernstein, former world title challengers Luigi “Kid Dynamite” Campurato and Israel “Pito” Cardona, along with referee/amateur coach Johnny Callas and USA Boxing administrator Roland Roy.
