Yesterday afternoon, PJ Rowson hosted an afternoon of boxing at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The main event saw Louis Norman of Shepshed win the vacant BBBofC English Flyweight Title by outpointing Nathan Reeve of Northampton.

Also on the 8-fight card billed as ‘Young Guns’ – Burton-on-Trent’s Tom Shaw outpointed Kris Davey of Chesterfield over eight rounds to win the vacant British Masters Bronze light-welterweight title.

Full Results as follows:

Nathan Reeve (Northampton) v Louis Norman (Shepshed)
Vacant BBBofC English Flyweight Title

Norman – sporting a neon pink afro wig (!) entered the ring first, followed by a serious-looking Reeve. This was a closely fought battle, although Reeve got off to the better start and Norman seemed to need longer to settle in to the fight. From my position ringside – it seemed that Reeve was the busier (certainly in the first half of the fight). Norman did a number of swinging shots which missed. But although Reeve’s shots seemed the slightly heavier as they landed – Norman didn’t really appear bothered by them. An exciting all-action contest which deserved the crowd’s rapturous applause, with Norman getting the points win to take the Title: 96-95; 97-94; 97-93.

Tom Shaw (Burton-on-Trent) v Kris Davey (Chesterfield)
Vacant British Masters Bronze Light-welterweight Title

Shaw sustained a nasty cut to the left brow from an accidental clash of heads in round two. Despite this – rounds two and five were decent rounds for the Burton man. Cuts-man Bob Plant did a great job in the corner and the cut didn’t prove a problem in subsequent rounds.

At the end of the fight, Davey had a bruise under the right eye and Shaw’s face was marked around both eyes as well as the cut.

Shaw wins on points 79-73 to take the Title.

Andrew Robinson (Redditch) v Mark Till (Stoke-on-Trent)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

Round one saw a toe-to-toe slug-fest between these two men and Till’s nose is bloody by the end of the opener. D’Animal Robinson keeps up the pace in round three and Till takes a lot of punches but sees it out to the final round. Robinson gets the points win 40-36

Paul Holt (Debut) (Birmingham) v Michael Stupart (Dunfermline)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

It was a cracking round two in this four rounder with both men landing notable head-shots, but Debutant Holt gets off the mark with a points win 40-36 against experienced Stupie.

Des Bowater (Wolverhampton) v Joe Beeden (Swindon)
4 x 3 Featherweight Contest

‘D Bow’ gets the points win 40-36 against a very game opponent.

Luke Paddock (Bloxwich) v Graham Fearn (York)

4 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

‘Cool Hand’ Luke wins on points 40-36

Craig Willshee (Swadlincote) v Luke Osman (Treharris, Wales)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

The fight got off to a messy start with some holding on in the opener but Willshee scored a knockdown in round 3 when he delivered a glancing blow to the forehead of Osman. Osman later took a couple of decent blows from Willshee and although he didn’t hit the canvas – he was given a standing eight count by Referee Rob Chalmers.

Willshee gets the points win 40-34 in his second pro fight.

Ricky Summers (Tipton) v Joe Walsh (Croydon)
4 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest

Summers made quick work of Walsh, landing a clubbing blow just behind the left ear of the Croyden man who went to his knees mid-way through the opener. He got up for the count but – looking uncomfortable – was not allowed to continue by Referee Rob Chalmers. Walsh then knelt back down on the canvas gesturing to his ear.

Summers wins by TKO Round 1
