The WBA Salutes Its Champions For A Successful 2013

The WBA congratulates its champions Takashi Uchiyama, Kazuto Ioka and the female champion Naoko Fujioka, who were all awarded among the best of the year in Japan.

Uchiyama received the Technique Award in the ceremony that took place last Friday at the Tokyo Dome Hotel in Tokyo.
The WBA Super-Featherweight champion also received the Fight of the Year award for his battle with Daiki Kaneko.
WBA Flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka received Fighting Spirit Award.

The newly crowned Naoko Fujioka received Female Boxer of the Year and the Female Fight of the Year for her bout with Naoko Yamaguchi, held on December 13, 2013.

The WBA family is very proud of all these champions and congratulates them for their well-deserved awards.

The WBA sanctioned 66 title fights in 2013; in addition to 10 intercontinental, 8 international and one continental contest.

30 of the 66 title fights were for the regular championship, eight were super championships, nine unifications and 19 were for the interim title.

There were nine fights ending in TKO, nine reached the limit, three ended in split decision. There were six KO’s, two majority decisions and one draw.

One technical draw, four unanimous decisions and three TKO’s were the results of the super championships. As for the unifications, there were two split decisions, one majority decisions and six unanimous decisions.

As for the interim there were six TKO’s, three KO’s, four unanimous decisions, two split decisions and two majority decisions, one technical decision and one draw.

Japanese fighters Koki Kameda, Kazuto Ioka, Ryo Miyazaki, who relinquished his title before his third fight of the year, the Argentinean Juan Carlos Reveco, Kazakh Gennady Golovkin and Indonesian Chris John, who lost the belt in his last fight, carried out three bouts for the WBA title in 2013.

Guillero Rigondeaux, Erislandy Lara, Danny García, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, Takashi Uchiyama, Adrien Broner, Koki Eto, Keith Thurman, Wladimir Klitshko, Alexander Povetkin, Austin Trout and Kohei Kono fought twice each.
