At The Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester, last night, Steve Wood of VIP Boxing Promotions hosted a show which featured eight contests.

The main event should have been King Davidson (Southampton) v Bradley Pryce (Newbridge, Wales,) in what was to have been a Commonwealth Title Eliminator, but this was cancelled – moving local boxer Jimmy Kelly jnr to the top spot.

Jimmy (Kilrain) Kelly jnr (Wythenshawe) v Max Maxwell (Birmingham)
6 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

This was a mature performance from young Kelly who looked strong and slammed in a number of solid body-shots to the torso of ‘Mad Max’. Experienced Maxwell ‘went for a little walk’ several times during the fight but Kelly kept focussed to get the win on points 60-55 to notch up his tenth win of ten, with four by KO.

Alex Rutter (Middleton) v Qasim Hussain (Sheffield)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

Hussains’ showboating didn’t put Rutter off and the Middleton man gets the points win (40-36)

Jamie Quinn (Debut) (Stockport) v Ryan McNichol (Glasgow)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

Quinn gets off the mark with a points win (40-36)

Taz Apergis (Wythenshawe) v Ibrar Riyaz (Reading)
4 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

Champs Camp resident – Apergis, had to focus so as not to get drawn in to Riyaz’s show-boating and regular vocal ‘whoops’, but the Wythenshawe man gets the win on points (39-37)

Andy Kremner (Debut)(Saddleworth) v Jason Nesbitt (Birmingham)
6 x 2 Light-Welterweight Contest

Kremner – wearing purple attire, a silver bow tie and black top hat (!) enters the ring alongside trainer John Murray.

But it’s a tough first outing for the debutant – who is wobbled in the fourth round by Nesbitt’s big right. A close contest against a determined Nesbitt – but Kremner gets the points win (59-57)

Chris Conwell (Debut) (Manchester) v Sid Razak (Birmingham)
6 x 2 Lightweight Contest

Debutant Conwell gets off the mark with a points win over experienced Razak (60-54)

Reece Cartwright (Leeds) v Deividas Sajauka (Lithuania)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Cartwright wins on points (40-36)

Zahid Hussain (Debut) v Simas Volosinas (Lithuania)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest

‘Magic Man’ Hussain gets the points win (40-36)
