Middleweight Contender Andy Lee Tested By Horta In Germany

Andy Lee won a majority points decision against Frenchman Frank Haroche Horta at the Blue Water Dokken Sports Venue, Esbjerk, Denmark on Saturday night.

Lee, presently ranked WBC #8, WBA #11 and WBO #12 in the world middleweight rankings, dropped down to 156 pounds for this contest.

In the opening rounds, a composed Lee worked behind his long right jab and navigated around the ring to comfortably take the first three rounds.

As the fight progressed, a determined Horta pressed forward and the fight became more competitive with both fighters trading punches.

The Irishman, inactive sincea second round KO win in November 2013, was glad to get much needed rounds under his belt to shake off some ring rust against a durable and game opponent.

The judges at ringside scored the contest 77-76, 77-76 and 76-76 in favour of Lee.

Lee commented after the contest, ‘My opponent tonight gave me a competitive fight, it was great to be action again and get the rounds in, I needed that. I will now move on with plans for my next fight.’

Going forward, Lee aims to stay busy and ring sharp with a fight pencilled in for Cardiff, Wales on a Matchroom Boxing card on May 17 on the undercard of Lee Selby v Romulo Koasicha and a possible spot on the undercard of Sergio Martinez v Miguel Cotto on June 7 in New York.
