Oklahoma City’s Downtown Airpark, located off I-40 and Western, usually alive with the sounds of rock and roll, will on June 6 be the scene of a majestic “Battle Under the Stars” as WBU Lightweight Champion and Oklahoma City native Noah Zuhdi (17-1, 13 KOs) defends his title against Eduardo Pereira dos Reis (13-1, 8 KOs), Osasco, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This is Zuhdi’s second defense of the vaulted title – the same one earned by Micky Ward in the film “The Boxer.” In September, 2012, Zuhdi won the WBU Championship belt in a twelve round decision over German Jurado (12-2) of Changuinola, Panama.
Zuhdi successfully defended his title in August, 2013, in a second round knockout of Gyula Vajda (12-3), from Hajduhadhaza, Hungary.
WBU Commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis commented on Zuhdi’s upcoming title defense. “Noah Zuhdi is continually on the lookout for new challenges and new opportunities to please his fans,” he said.
“That he has decided to fight in this wonderful outdoor venue is a tribute of his fearless desire to do anything the best way possible. Rarely does any boxing organization have the privilege of a class act representing them and to have Noah to do such, with him being an exciting, entertaining, tenacious fighter, is simply fantastic.
“It is my hope that OKC realizes there is a new major league franchise in town and it’s Noah Zuhdi.”
On the action packed undercard, with opponents to be announced, will be crowd favorite super middleweight Bo Gibbs (10-0, 7 KOs) (6 rounds); heavyweight Ron Aubrey (11-3, 11 KOs), (6 rounds); welterweight Joe Blurton and Terry Butterbaugh (9-9).
Bud Elder, catBOX Vice President of Boxing Operations, promises the event will go down in Oklahoma history. “This fight has been a long time in the process,” he said. “But the stars have perfectly aligned to give us this wonderful outdoor venue and a sure to be exciting fight between the reigning Champion Noah Zuhdi and the rugged Brazilian boxer Reis, who has 8 knockouts and only one loss.
Plus, a strong undercard with plenty of boxing action. catBOX promises to deliver a rock ‘em, sock ‘em evening of world class boxing at its finest under the stars at Oklahoma City’s newest and best outdoor facility, with the backdrop of Oklahoma City’s skyline rounding out the scene.
