At Liverpool Olympia on Saturday night, Martin Gethin of Walsall lost his British Lightweight Title by a split decision to Derry Mathews of Liverpool. A hard-fought contest saw Mathews win the Title for a second time having won it in 2012 when he beat Manchesters’ Anthony Crolla.
Also on the stacked Frank Warren promoted show, Chris Eubank Junior of Brighton stopped Robert Swierzbinski in the seventh round of their eight round Middleweight Contest after the Polish boxer had been on the canvas seven times since round two (!)
Terry Flanagan of Manchester had Yordan Vasilev of Bulgaria down in the opener and stopped him in the second round of their scheduled eight round Lightweight contest.
And there were points victories for Thomas Stalker, Nathan Brough and Jack Catterall in their eight round contests.
New signing – Debutant Joe Costello of Birmingham crashed on to the pro scene when he scored a first round stoppage of Youssef Al Hamidi of Dewsbury and there were also wins for debutants Kevin Hodkinson and Macauley McGowan.
