After making a long-awaited return to the ring with two quick appearances in May and June, Wallasey’s Steve Williams found himself in title class as he travelled to the Italian town of Casteggio last Saturday to face local favourite, Luca Giacon, for the vacant WBA Continental light-welterweight title.
But the Brit was sadly forced to retire from the fight after seven rounds.
The fight got off to a nightmare start when Williams sustained a cut over the left eye in the opening round.
He then found himself on the canvas in the second frame before retiring at the end of the seventh.
