“Big Daddy” Browne Issues Heavyweight Hit List

Lucas Browne

Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne believes he’ll be lean and mean as he presses towards a world title shot in 2015.

The much-loved Aussie puncher was in the best shape of his career when he defeated tough American Chauncy Welliver earlier this month and he says the days of weighing in heavy are over now he’s training with the legendary Jeff Fenech.

Browne is also keen to shed his amiable image as he feels a vicious streak is needed in order to get to the top.

“2015 will be a massive year and everyone in the heavyweight division should watch out because I’m coming for them,” he said.

“I’ve been quiet for too long, watching everyone do their thing, but I can guarantee that 2015 will be different because I’m going to be the scariest mother on the planet.

“I’ve got my fitness up to scratch now. Before I wasn’t 100% in my fitness and I went into fights overweight, but at 6ft 5ins at 112 kilos I’ll be a different animal.

“As well as my power, I’ll have more agility and speed so the majority of heavyweights are going to have trouble fighting me.”

Lucas is ranked in the top five by the WBC and WBA and is number seven with IBF so a world title opportunity is on the horizon, but he understands that he might have to beat a few fellow contenders first and has drawn up a list of foes.

“For the Aussie fans, I think Joey Parker and Alex Leapai would be great fights. It’s just a matter of time,” Browne said.

“In regards to the world standings, you’ve got Tyson Fury and everyone wants me to shut his big mouth up. I want to fight him and Dereck Chisora. Fighters like [Alexander] Ustinov and [Denis] Boytstov would be good and I want [Ruslan] Chagaev because he’s got the WBA title.

“Obviously there is [Wladimir] Klitschko. That’s the ultimate goal. Everyone wants the big titles and Klitschko is the man and that is who I want to be fighting one day. I’ve got to bide my time, do everything I need to do and get up to where I need to.

“Last but not least, Mr Deontay Wilder. Yes, you’re 32-0 with 32 knockouts but if you fight bums you’re going to get a good record. It’s going to be funny when someone hits you back, especially someone with my power. You’ll wake up the next day from sleeping and wonder what the f**k happened.”
