‘Triple Threat’ – a three fight dinner show hosted by Errol Johnson of EJKO Promotions, took place at Banks’s Stadium, home to Walsall F.C. last night. The event featured three contests – two of which were for Titles.
The ‘suite’ was packed out and, despite there being only three fights, it was a great night with bags of action.
Lennox Clarke (Halesowen) v Dan Blackwell (Trowbridge)
Vacant British Masters Bronze Super-middleweight Title
8 x 3 Rounds
A good performance from Clarke who persisted with the jab to Blackwells’ head resulting in a bloody face from round 2. After a number of headshots in round four Blackwells’ face was awash with blood. A gutsy effort from the Trowbridge man but it was an 80-72 points win for Clarke to take the Title.
Des Bowater (Wolverhampton) v Lewis Jones (Leicester)
Vacant British Masters Bronze Super-featherweight Title
8 x 3 Rounds
Jones enters the ring wearing his Army Royal Engineer beret. Big support for local man D-Bow.
It turned out to be a great scrap between these two – plenty of action and a close contest. Jones was very quick footed and fast at dodging and punching – taking the first rounds, while Bowater looked to ‘ride it out’ knowing he’d pull away in the latter rounds. Round four wasn’t a good round for Lewis and he definitely felt the body-punches.
There were a few warnings during this contest and not just the boxers! Jones’ trainer Jason Shinfield was told off by referee Gareth Morris because he kept shouting out that Bowater was holding (which he was….).
A thrilling contest with D-Bow getting the points win 78-75 to take the Title.
Kieran McLaren (Stoke-on-Trent) v Matt Seawright (Tamworth)
6 x 2 Super-Lightweight Contest
Supported by his Stoke fans, McLaren (aka Gunner) faced experienced and awkward Seawright and puts in a good performance to get the points win 60-55.
