The Steve Wood – VIP Boxing Promotions show featured 13 fights in total and, again, provided another entertaining and value-for-money night.

Jay Metcalf (Liverpool) v William Warburton (Atherton)
10 x 3 International Masters Light-Middleweight Title

I’m sure many thought Metcalf (son of former World champ – Shea Neary) would have had an easier night, but those of us that have seen Warburton fight many times would know that it was likely to go the distance and the Atherton man would go all out to win – and so he did! It was a thrilling contest and by the mid-way point Metcalf started to look frustrated that Warburton showed no sign of dwindling. The seventh was a great round but, after a couple of noticeable low blows, Metcalf was deducted a point and the now-lively Liverpool crowd (as it was 12.30am by this point) did not like it! Warburton’s main problem seemed to be that Metcalf frequently had him backed on the ropes and Warby had to find ways to escape the flurries of shots that ensued.

A good contest that went the full ten rounds with ‘Kid Shamrock’ Metcalf victorious on points 97-93 to win the Title.

Wayne Adeniyi (Rock Ferry) v Elvis Dube (Derby)
6 x 2 Cruiserweight Contest

Dube took the fight with Adeniyi at 10am Saturday morning and was going back after the fight to work as a doorman(!)

After a few minutes delay (Boxers waited in the ring for Adeniyi’s gumshield) this first contest of the night began. Adeniyi sticks to the head-shots and wins on points 60-54

Declan West (Debutant) (Leigh) v Michael Stupart (Dunfermline)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest

Debutant West wasn’t afraid to try a mix of shots and gets off the mark with a 40-36 points victory over last minute opponent Stupey.

Mark Evans (Holyhead) v Dean Evans (Hereford)
4 x 3 Featherweight Contest

There was big support for Mark Evans but Deano gets off to a great start. It’s a full of action round two as both men go for it and Deano sustains a slight nick to the right cheek.

Referee Phil Edwards declares the contest a draw 39-39

Mason Cartwright (Ellesmere Port) v Kevin McCauley (Brighton)
4 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

‘Nutty’ Cartwright got off to a confident start in round one – targeting the body of McCauley.

McCauley deducted a point in round 2 for holding – much to the annoyance of his corner who could see Mason shoving his glove in McCauley’s neck more than once while they are locked together but Referee Steve Gray doesn’t see it.

Cartwright gets the win 40-35

Joe Tonks (Liverpool) v Danny Donchev (Rosehill, London, via Bulgaria)
4 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

Tonks wins on points 40-36

Adam Ismail (Bootle) v Robert Studzinski (Llanelli, Wales, via Poland)
6 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

Ismail keeps up the jab to the head to win on points 60-55

Tom Farrell (Hyton) v Kristian Laight (Nuneaton)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Farrell uses long-reaching jabs to get the points win 40-36 over experienced Mr.Reliable

Matty Fagan (Ellesmere Port) v Dan Carr (Trowbridge)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Fagan wins on points 40-36 against ‘Dirty’ Dan Carr.

Colin Farricker (Liverpool) v Lee Duncan (Sheffield)
6 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

Farricker looked in fantastic form physically but was up against tricky, switch-hitter – Lee Duncan, who was very quick in reacting and looked improved. Farricker finished the fourth round strongly but looked frustrated. His nose is bloody from the head-shots and Ingle-Boxer Duncan gets the points win 59-56

Steve Brogan (Skelmersdale) v Ibrar Riyaz (Reading)
4 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

Brogan wins on points 40-37

Ryan Moorhead (Liverpool) v Elemir Rafael (Slovakia)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest

Rafael started off confidently but Moorhead stamped his authority in the second round and gets the points win 40-36

Sean Dodd (Birkenhead) v Liam Richards (Trowbridge)
6 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

‘Smiley’ Richards gets a little nick to the right brow in the second round and ‘Masher’ Dodd wins on points 60-54
