At Oldham Sports Centre last night, Jon ‘2Smokes’ Kays won an eight round Super-Lightweight contest by outpointing late opponent – Liam Richards of Melksham. Kays was to have been fighting for the WBC International Silver Featherweight Title, but Richards stepped up to the plate on Thursday night with Kays then looking at an eight-rounder.
Sadly, it was not the most thrilling of contests (!) Kays seemed too hesitant and missed a number of opportunities, but did enough to secure the points win 80-71 (Richards was deducted a point for persistent fouling).
Kallum De’Ath proved the most enjoyable to watch (in my opinion) on the Steve Wood – VIP promoted show, scoring a 40-35 points victory over Qasim Hussain.
