At the Kings Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, last night, Carl Greaves Promotions in association with Impact Boxing (Scott Lawton) hosted a show billed as ‘New Beginning’ which featured seven bouts of boxing.
It was another entertaining small hall show with a packed and enthusiastic crowd!
Results as follows:
Kerry Evans (Wrexham) v Mark McKray (Tottenham via Jamaica)
6 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest
’Fifty Star Stan’ aka Kerry Evans, wearing rather short shorts (!), had big support from the travelling Wrexham supporters as well as the Stoke crowd.
There was plenty of action in the contest and it looked like it might finish in the first couple of rounds, but despite the big punches going in from Evans – he did have a tendency to leave him-self open as he launched them. McKray attempted to capitalise on it but was under too much pressure in the fifth round and could not escape Evans’s shots – warranting Referee Kevin Parker to stop the contest.
Evans gets the fifth round TKO to notch up his sixth win of six.
Chris Nixon (Stoke-on-Trent) v Andy Neylon (Hull)
4 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest
Neylon looked to have gotten off to a good start against the local man but is forced to take a knee in the closing seconds of round two from a body shot. He gets back in the fight but Nixon goes after the same shot. In my opinion, the 40-36 points win did not reflect the closeness of
Josh McLaren (Stoke-on-Trent) v Evaldas Korsakas (Hull via Lithuania)
4 x 3 Super Lightweight Contest
McLaren was stunned by a headshot which saw his legs stiffen right on the bell at the end of round one and when he started round two he didn’t seem to see the headshots coming. He picked it up but Korsakas looked the sharper of the two men and gets the points win 39-38
Mike Jones (Wrexham) v Ali Wyatt (Torquay via Iran)
4 x 3 Super Welterweight Contest
Jones gets his first win of three, on points 40-36
Ben Eland (Stoke-on-Trent) v James Montgomery
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest
It was a double pro debut for these two who gave a great fight – giving it their all in the final round.
A deserved draw 39-39 for the two young debutants.
Kristian Hassell (Stoke-on-Trent) v Darren Snow (Dinnington, Yorks)
4 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest
Hassell’s first pro fight was cut short by an accidental clash of heads in round one which saw Snow sustain a nasty cut above the right brow. Referee Shaun Messer sought advice from the ringside Doctor and stopped the contest. The fight was deemed a Technical Draw.
Wade Armour (Stoke-on-Trent) v Harvey Hemsley (Bristol)
4 x 3 Super Featherweight Contest
Hemsley seemed to tire in the round three, but both men slugged it out in the fourth and final round with Armour winning on points 40-38
