Saturday night, at Middleton Arena, Middleton, England, BlackFlash Promotions (in association with BritishBoxers) hosted a fight-night which headlined the first title contest for the promoter.

Sam Hyde of Sale won the International Cruiserweight Challenge Belt by outpointing Rolandas Cesna of Lithuania.

Also on the bill – Zelfa Barrett stopped Hungarian opponent, Aron Szilagyi, in the fourth round to secure his eighth win of eight.

It was another enjoyable and entertaining night for BlackFlash Promotions. The dinner show started with three very different singers – in the form of Chris Walling, Tyler Daly and extraordinary beatboxer Adam Alnajjar.

Results as follows:

Sam Hyde (Sale) v Rolandas Cesna (Lithuania)
8 x 3 Cruiserweight Challenge Title

Hyde almost chases his opponent in the opening round. Cesna is wobbled already and is on the back foot as he steps away from Hyde’s big shots. Hyde switches from head to body shots. The body-shots sound heavy. He chases Cesna again in round two and a right shot sets him up for the knockdown as Cesna falls to his knees. Moments later he is on the canvas again from what looks like a shove, but he is counted by Referee Lyson.

Cesna hangs on to the waist of Hyde in the closing seconds of the third round and is warned by Referee Lyson.

Hyde had a nasty habit of looking at their fight on the big screen behind the ring – not a good idea(!)

Cesna is told for holding again in the fourth.

Round five and both men start to overbalance. Hyde keeps upright but as Cesna starts to topple Hyde puts a foot out and the Lithuanian trips over it – landing on the canvas. Hyde walks away grinning. Infact, he looks a bit bored from round five onwards, but there’s not a lot coming back from Cesna.

Cesna is gasping as they come out for the eighth and final round. Hyde gets the points win 80-69.

Zelfa Barrett (Manchester) v Aron Szilagyi (Budapest)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest

Barrett dominated the fight with a classy display of boxing. He targeted the body of his opponent from the start. Barrett corners Szilagyi in the closing half minute of round two and offloads a barrage of shots. Tough Szilagyi did well to eventually escape Barrett’s shots, but in the third round his nose is bloody and his mouth gaping. Barrett switches from head to body shots with some big overarm’s landing. You could hear the smack of the body-shots as they landed! Referee Mark Lyson stopped the contest in 2 minutes 19 secs of the fourth round with Szilagyi under too much punishment from Barrett.

Alex Rutter (Middleton) v Jamie Quinn (Stockport)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

Rutter looked to be getting bullied by Quinn in the opening rounds but settles down in the third frame. Quinn goes down in round 4 and looks unsteady but manages to see out the round. Rutter slugs in some decent body-shots in round 4 and gets the points win 38-37

Matthew Ryan (Middleton) v William Warburton (Atherton)
6 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest

It was a frenzied first round. Ryan was busy from the off and seemed to catch Warburton offguard, but fighting settles down and both men upped the work-rate in the sixth final round. A good all-action contest with Ryan getting the points win 60-55

Aaron Michael (Middleton) v Darryl Sharp (Manchester)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

A fast-paced contest between these two, with Michael getting the win on points 40-37
