At the Kings Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, England, last night, Carl Greaves Promotions (in association with Impact Boxing) hosted a night of seven contests from local boxers. The headline event saw the home-boxer, Kerry Evans of Wrexham, stopped by Rhys Saunders of Cardiff in round one of an 8-round Lightweight Contest for the Classic Challenge Belt. Saunders looked keen and dangerous from the off and soon had Evans on the canvas. After a second time, although the popular local man made the count – he was stopped by Referee Kevin Parker seconds later under too much pressure from Saunders who subjected him to a barrage of shots while pinned on the ropes.
Stoke man, Josh McLaren, secured a draw with Alfreton’s William Warburton, despite nasty cuts to the right brow which almost brought the fight to an early finish.
The remaining five contests all went to points, including confident performances from debutants Josh Groombridge and Luke Jones.
