At the Oldham Sports Centre Saturday night, Matty Ryan of Middleton secured a second round TKO over Hungarian opponent Zoltan Turai in an eight round Super-Welterweight Contest.
The Steve Wood – VIP Boxing Promotions and Blackflash Promotions show headlined Ryan v Turai and featured six undercard bouts. Results as follow:
Matthew Ryan (Middleton) v Zoltan Turai (Hungary)
8 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
Ryan was busy from the off, with nothing coming back from his opponent – who was told ‘to fight’ by Referee Darren Sarginson mid-way through the first.
Ryan landed uppercuts with regularity and a mix of jabs and hooks.
Turai does a bit more in the second round but takes a lot of head and body shots, with Ryan getting the TKO in the closing seconds of the round.
Philip Sutcliffe Jnr (Crumlin, Dublin) v Geiboord Omier (Barcelona via Nicaragua)
6 x 3 Welterweight Contest
Omier went down with the first shot of the first round. Fighting resumed but not for long, with Sutcliffe getting the win by first round TKO
Zellfa Barrett (Manchester) v Damian Lawniczak (Poznan, Poland)
6 x 3 Lightweight Contest
Lawniczak went down in Barretts’ corner in the last half minute of round three and just makes it up in time for the count. A punishing body-shot sees Lawniczak down in the first half minute of the fourth with Brownflash Barrett getting the win by TKO round 4
Chris Monaghan (Salford) v Darryl Sharp (Manchester)
4 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
It was a frenzied round one – fast paced and plenty of action. Monaghan was already marked around the eye by the end of the first. Although looking more tired – Sharp was still busier at the end of the four rounds and gets the points win 39-37
Dale Coyne (Ancoats, Manchester) v Yailton Neves (Manchester)
4 x 3 Super-Midleweight Contest
A slow start to the fight with much of the action taking place in the corners of the ring.
Neves affords some showboating in round three but Coyne wins on points 40-36
Lyndon Newman (Denton) v Lewis van Poetsch (Lydney, Glos.,)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest
Newman wins on points 40-36
Mindaugas Baublys (debut) (Manchester via Lithuania) v Matthew Ashmole (Swansea)
4 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
Despite a bad cut to Ashmoles’ left brow in round 3, it’s a great last round and Baublys wins on points 40-37
