At the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Saturday night, a thrilling headliner saw Gorton’s Ryan Doyle win the vacant BBBofC English Featherweight Title by outpointing Ian Bailey of Slough over 10 hard-fought rounds (99-90; 98-91; 97-93)

Bailey was on the canvas in the opening round but kept going to provide a challenging ten rounds for ‘Ruthless’ Doyle. Another notable shot came from Doyle in the third – when a shot caught the top of Bailey’s head and his legs stiffened briefly. Both men did not go unscathed – Doyle’s left eye area was marking up mid-way through the contest and eventually started to bleed in the fifth. Bailey’s swollen, bruised right eye area began to trickle blood shortly after, in round six.

Also on the Steve Wood – VIP Boxing Promotions bill, Manchester’s Joe Murray scored a points’ win (60-55) over tough Ibrar Riyaz of Reading to notch up a second win since his 14 month ‘break’ from boxing last year.

And, debutant John Telford of Flixton, Manchester, made a notable start to his pro career by outpointing Lewis van Poetsch of Lydney over four rounds (40-36)
