At the Whites Hotel, Macron Stadium, Bolton, on Saturday night, Jamie Cox of Swindon won a ten round Super Middleweight Championship contest by outpointing Argentinian Martin Fidel Rios (98-86). The fight – more of a brawl – was a challenge for Referee Phil Edwards who had to stop proceedings numerous times to warn both boxers for foul play and point deductions. After a messy ten rounds, Cox’s glove was raised.
Also on the Steve Wood – VIP Boxing (in association with BoxNation) event, Paul Butler of Ellesmere Port outpointed Mexican Alexis Ruiz (98-92) over ten rounds of Bantamweight action and Zelfa Barrett of Manchester stopped Nicaraguan-born Elvis Guillen in round one of their scheduled eight round Super-Featherweight contest.
