Manchester’s ‘Genius’ Joe Murray made short work of opponent Reynaldo Cajina on Friday night to win the Classic Challenge Belt by KO.

Last minute opponent Cajina, of Lithuania via Nicaragua, was on the canvas twice in the 1 minute 40 seconds of the opening round of their scheduled ten round Welterweight contest.

Also on the Steve Wood – VIP Promotions show at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse Middleton boxer, Liam Taylor, scored a fourth round stoppage of Belfast’s James Gorman.

The show also included a further eight undercard contests which featured debutants Ross Cooksey (winning by first round KO) and James Moorcroft (winning on points 40-36)

Full results :

Joe Murray (Manchester) v Reynaldo Cajina (Lithuania via Nicaragua)
10 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Murray Round 1 KO

Liam Taylor (Middleton) v James Gorman (Belfast, N.I.)
6 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest

Taylor pulls his opponent over twice during the first rounds and Gorman takes a lot of punishment in the third round. Referee Michael Alexander was keeping a close eye on the Belfast man but finally stopped the contest in round four – Gorman taking too much punishment to the head.

Taylor wins by TKO round 4

Bilal Rehman (Rochdale) v Ibrar Riyaz (Reading)
6 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest

Rehman spends the entire last round skipping out of Riyaz’s way and throwing virtually nothing. Riyaz was frustrated (so was I!) but the Rochdale man secures the win on points 59-56

Lee Oldham (Ashton-under-Lyne) v Sam Wall (Maidenhead)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest
Oldham wins by TKO Round 3

Mickey Ellison (Darwen) v Carl Wild (Sheffield)
4 x 3 Light-Heavyweight Contest

Experienced Carl Wild was too much for Ellison, Wild getting the win on points 40-37

Ross Cooksey (Debut) (Barrow-in-Furness) v Stefan Sashov (Sofia, Bulgaria)
4 x 3 Featherweight Contest

Cooksey got off to a flyer, scoring a KO in the opening round of his first professional contest.

Round 1 KO

Omar Dusary (Manchester) v Brett Fidoe (Evesham)
4 x 3 Featherweight Contest

Smiley Dusary didn’t seem ‘on it’ as much as usual and his opponent finds success in round two. The Manchester man gets the points win though 39-38

James Moorcroft (Debut) (Wigan) v Liam Griffiths (Bognor Regis)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Debutant Moorcroft gets off the mark with a points’ win 40-36 against experienced Griffiths

John Telford (Flixton) v Darryl Sharp (Middleton)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

Sharp was the busier of the two men in this contest – Telford didn’t do enough and it was a poor last round. Sharp wins on points 39-38

Jake Bulger (Failsworth) v Alec Bazza (Belfast, N.I.)
4 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest

Bulger, who sustained a swelling to the forehead by the end of the contest, secured the points’ win 40-36
