Johnney Roye Promotions (for MTK) hosted a show at the Wythenshawe Forum on Saturday night which saw local man, Jimmy Kilrain Kelly, win his 22nd contest (of 23) by outpointing experienced Kevin McCauley of Stourbridge over six rounds of middleweight action.
Kelly was scheduled to face Estonian boxer, Pavel Semjonov, for the IBF European Light-Middleweight Title but he was refused entry to the UK at the last minute. A mad dash to find a replacement saw McCauley step in to the breach at just two days’ notice.
The all-action contest saw Kelly using long reaching jabs and rib-crunching body-shots to keep McCauley at bay. Fighting got a little messy in the later rounds and both men were verbally goading each other but, despite the disappointment and frustration of an opponent change, Kelly gets another win under his belt.
All results as follows.
Jimmy Kelly (Wythenshawe) v Kevin McCauley (Stourbridge)
6 x 3 Middleweight Contest
Kelly wins on points 60-54
Con Sheehan (California, via Ireland) v Tomas Mrazek (Prague, Czech Republic)
6 x 3 Heavyweight Contest
Peter Fury trained Sheehan scored a points’ win over a busy Mrazek. Sheehan could have been busier, he seemed to switch off later in the fight – possibly because he was bothered by a cut to the left brow which he sustained from a clash of heads in the second round, but he gets the points’ win 60-54
Ciaran McVarnock (Belfast, N.I.) v Ben Mulligan (Fivemiletown, N.I.)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest
McVarnock took just 2 minutes 19 seconds to dispense of Mulligan by TKO
Jake Kelly (Debut)(Stockport) v Mike Castell (Debut)(Hyde)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest
A messy contest with lots of holding. Both men on their professional debuts but it’s Kelly who gets off the mark with a points win 40-36
Tom Aspinall (Atherton) v Tamas Bajzath (Budapest, Hungary)
4 x 3 Heavyweight Contest
Former MMA fighter – Aspinall, wins by first round TKO. Bajzath was on the canvas three times before Referee Darren Sarginson waved the contest off.
Meshech Speare (Liverpool) v Luke Fash (Hull)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest
Spear makes his pro debut with a win on points 40-35 against Fash who was on the canvas in the fourth and final round.
