At the Holiday Inn, Birmingham City Central, on Saturday night – Jordan Clayton of Solihull impressed over eight rounds to win a shut-out points victory (80-72) over Adam Grabiec of Poland. An improved Clayton kept calm and focused throughout – producing a more controlled performance than previous outings.
Also on the Errol Johnson – Black Country Boxing (BCB) Promotions dinner show, Sean ‘Showtime’ Davis and Andrew ‘D’Animal’ Robinson secured points wins, while Matt Sennett and Ashley Silver made their professional debuts.
Results as follows:
Jordan Clayton (Solihull) v Adam Grabiec (Poland)
8 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
A ‘good-to-watch’ contest with a nice controlled performance from Clayton who gets the win on points 80-72
Sean Davis (Hockley, Birmingham) v Simas Volosinas (Panevezys, Lithuania)
6 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest
Nice boxing from ‘Showtime’ Davis who kept busy and fast-paced. He had his opponent on the canvas in round two, a punch landed but Volosinas also slipped on the ring advert. Davis’s jabs were lightning fast. An impressive performance gets him the win on points 60-53
Andrew Robinson (Redditch) v Josef Obeslo (Czech Republic)
4 x 3 Light-Heavyweight Contest
D’Animal was back on winning form and visibly emotional at the decision – a well-deserved clear points win 40-36
He definitely ‘went for it’ – maybe over-trying too much, but he landed some crackers! Big punching, busy and kept on it, ‘D’Animal’ being an appropriate nickname (!)
Ashley Silver (Debut)(Chelmsley Wood) v Casey Blair (Bangor, N.I.)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest
Silver got off to a wobbly start against Blair who stunned the debutant with a head-shot in the opening round, but he grew in confidence from round two onwards and landed some decent shots with some nice footwork. Blair sustained a tiny nick to the right eye during the contest.
Silver gets ‘off the mark’ with a points win 40-36
Matt Sennett (Debut)(Birmingham) v Dmitrij Kalinovskij (Klaipeda, Lithuania)
4 x 3 Heavyweight Contest
Sennett started his first pro fight a bit too over-keen. A ‘slugger’ and busy, but needed to calm down a bit. He eased off slightly in round two but tired quickly in the last round.
A close call but he persevered to win his first pro contest on points 39-38
Nathan Stevens (Birmingham) v Mitch Mitchell (Lincoln)
4 x 2 Exhibition Bout
This was Stevens’ first outing and did well in an exhibition bout against tough, experienced ‘Mad-Mitch’.
