There was a great night of action Saturday night at the BEC (Bowlers Exhibition Centre) Manchester. The nine-bout event headlined three ‘Challenge Belts’ and saw some thrilling boxing from the undercard action.

The main bout saw a quick finish for Manchester Cruiserweight, Jordan Thompson, who stopped Belgium opponent Michael Pareo in 1 minute 37 seconds of round 1 – Pareo having been on the canvas three times(!)

Mason Cartwright of Ellesmere Port also scored a first round stoppage, with his Hungarian opponent, Zoltan Turai, on the canvas twice before being stopped in just 1 minute.

And John Telford of Flixton, Manchester, also had a short night when he discarded of Slovakian opponent, Ladislav Nemeth, in three rounds of a scheduled eight round Challenge Belt contest. Nemeth was on the canvas twice (round 2 and 3) before being stopped.

The show was hosted by Andy Ayling, in association with Jason McClory (Longshots Promotions) and Steve Furness (Manco Boxing).

Other results:

CJ Challenger (Leicester) v William Warburton (Atherton)
6 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest

Challenger was on the canvas twice in the opening round and Warburton looked to be heading for an early stoppage, but the Atherton man sustained a cut to the right brow in round two and seemed bothered by it for the rest of that round. Cuts-man Nigel Hardman clearly did a good job in the corner though and Warburton looked relaxed again going in to the third round to finish the remaining three rounds strongly.

Challenger nicked the win on points 57-56

Raza Hamza (Birmingham) v Andis Didzus (Tukums, Latvia)
4 x 3 Super-Featherweight Contest

Hamza started straight from the bell with all guns blazing and opponent Didzus was soon on the canvas. The Latvian was counted and boxing resumed but Didzus was under too much pressure and was stopped by referee Mark Lyson in 1 minute 6 seconds of the first round.

Hamza wins by TKO round 1

Jack Rafferty (Debut)(Shaw) v Kevin McCauley (Stourbridge)
4 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest

Debutant Rafferty was impressive in his first outing – infact, one of the best debuts I’ve seen in a long time. He was all over experienced McCauley and sank in some sharp body-shots in round 2. Bags of effort and constant pressure on his opponent scored him a 40-36 shutout victory to kick off his pro career.

Irvin Magno (Buxton via Philippines) v Ibrar Riyaz (Reading)
4 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest

Magno was busy and practically smothering Riyaz at times with shots, but it was a good end of round 2 for Riyaz and a close contest with Magno – getting the marginal points’ win 39-38

Damian Chambers (Dukinfield) v Tayar Mehmed (Bulgaria)
4 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

Another good debut fight, with a confident Chambers getting off the mark with a 40-36 points win.

Muheeb Fazeldin (Sheffield) v Kristian Laight (Nuneaton)
4 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest

A confident Fazeldin had a tendency to keep one arm behind his back (!) Laight sustained a nick under the right eye.

Fazeldin wins on points 40-36
