Kyoguchi demolished Bermudez and is the only WBA junior flyweight champion – World Boxing Association

Hiroto Kyoguchi stepped into the lion’s den and came out on top in a great performance in defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight championship. The Japanese traveled to Guadalajara and demolished local Esteban Bermudez in seven rounds on Friday night and is now the only champion of the category by the pioneer organization.

The mandatory fight matched the Japanese super champion against the Mexican, who was the champion of the division. Kyoguchi faced a brave and aggressive opponent but knew how to use his tools to win in the exchanges and diminish the energy of his opponent.

The Asian’s hands speed and the use of his uppers were key from the start. Kyoguchi hurt Bermudez severely with uppercutsl to the jaw and punished him as the rounds went by.

The fight took on a dramatic tone when an accidental headbutt cut Bermudez’s head and he began to shed a lot of blood but was able to hold on for several rounds in an act of bravery and managed to put Kyoguchi in trouble at times.

However, the Japanese was still in control despite having received a point deduction on a couple of occasions. He continued to hurt his opponent until the seventh round when there was no answer after a combination from Kyoguchi and the referee had to stop the fight.

The Japanese fighter remains undefeated after 16 professional fights, 11 of them won by knockout. The Mexican has 14 wins, 4 losses, 2 draws and 10 knockouts.
