“Medallita” Jimenez put Costa Rica on top  – World Boxing Association

Costa Rican David “Medallita” Jimenez upset Ricardo Sandoval, in Los Angeles, and defeated him by majority decision in a World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight eliminator fight.

Jimenez was not the favorite in the betting but he had a great performance and worked hard to take two of the three scorecards from the judges. The scores were 114-112, 114-112 and 113-113.

The Costa Rican, who is 30 years old, was facing an undefeated prospect like the American but he was able to draw on all his experience to take a hard-fought victory. It was key for him to have knocked down Sandoval in round 11, as it made the difference in the end in a fight that was very close.

Jimenez’s undefeated record extended to 12 wins, with 9 knockouts. Sandoval now has 20 wins, 2 losses and 15 knockouts.
