Esparza-Guzman for WBA belt on Saturday – World Boxing Association

World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight champion Marlen Esparza will make the first defense of her WBA belt against Eva Guzman this Saturday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Houston native of Mexican descent will also put her WBC belt on the line against the Venezuelan challenger, who will be making her first appearance in the United States and is highly motivated after winning the right to challenge the champion.

Esparza won her belt on April 9 when she defeated Japan’s Naoko Fujioka by unanimous decision in San Antonio during their unification fight.

Guzman, defeated Isabel Millan in June 2021, a fight that gave her her position as an official challenger to the crown and now she will have her big opportunity.

Promotional activities for the evening will take place this week, with Vergil Ortiz Jr. taking on Michael McKinson in the night’s main event fight.

Esparza has 12 wins, 1 loss and 1 knockout, while Guzman has 19 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and 11 knockouts.
