Usyk is the WBA August Boxer of the Month   – World Boxing Association

Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk was awarded the World Boxing Association (WBA) Boxer of the Month thanks to his defense of the body’s Super Heavyweight Championship last August 20 against Anthony Joshua.

Usyk retained his black and gold crown, as well as the IBF and WBO versions with a split decision over the Briton in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The champ went from strength to strength in a very strategic fight against an opponent who outweighed him. He knew how to use his mobility and combinations to avoid a Joshua who had a reach and height advantage and in the end managed to get the better of the fight.

The 35-year-old southpaw fighter made it clear that he is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters today and an impressive heavyweight like few others. His undefeated record stands with 20 wins and 13 knockouts.
