Jessica McCaskill will fight Chantelle Cameron for the super lightweight titles – World Boxing Association

After some great women’s fights this year, another great clash of champions is coming up. The 147 women’s Queen, Jessica McCaskill, has decided to move down the division again to face the rising British Chantelle Cameron. This fight will be part of the event where Dmitry Bivol and Gilberto Ramirez will fight for the World Boxing Association light heavyweight super championship at the Etihad Arena, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. 

“Caskilla” comes from her third successful defense of all welterweight belts against Mexico’s Alma Ibarra last June. Since she started in the professional boxing world, she has been interested in competing against the best boxers. Chantelle Cameron was already on McCaskill’s radar some time ago. That is why she has now decided to move back down to 140 pounds for this great challenge.  

The native of Chicago, Illinois, United States, tried to take over the WBA lightweight belt against Katie Taylor for 2017, but fell on the cards in a resounding way. Then, for 2018, she became WBC super lightweight champion by defeating former champion Erica Farias. The following year she faced another Argentinian fighter and added the WBA black and gold belt in the same weight class, then defended both titles again with Farias before moving up to welterweight for 2020 and taking all the crowns against the historic Cecilia Braekhus.  

Cameron, nicknamed “Il Capo”, considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of the moment, with a rich amateur past, is coming off a triumphant defense of her WBC and IBF super lightweight belts against Victoria Bustos last May. The boxer from Northampton, England, won her first belt in October 2020 by knocking out Adriana Dos Santos Araujo. In the same month, but the following year, as part of the Road to Undisputed tournament launched by Eddie Hearns for 140 pounds, she was the one who inaugurated it by fighting and winning with American Mary Mcgee, winning the IBF title.  

Everything indicated that Cameron would make the final of the tournament this year against Kali Reis, who holds the WBA crown at 140 but has now been put as champion in recess due to various commitments and inconveniences. 

This coming November 5, McCkaskill, who has 12 wins with 5 knockouts and only 2 defeats, will try to conquer again at 140 against Chantelle Cameron, who is undefeated in 16 fights with 8 knockouts.
