Rodriguez beats Russell by technical decision in Brooklyn  – World Boxing Association

Emmanuel Rodriguez defeated Gary Antonio Russell by technical decision this weekend during the World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight eliminator fight held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Puerto Rican was unable to continue after round 10 due to an accidental headbutt that caused a cut. For such reason, the judges had to go to the scorecards in which the Puerto Rican was dominating the American 100-90, 97-93 and 99-91.

Rodriguez made a great fight to break Russell’s undefeated record and move closer to a shot at the WBA world title, which is currently held by Japan’s Naoya Inoue.

The 30-year-old fighter now has a record of 21 wins, 2 losses and 13 knockouts. Russell’s record stands at 19 wins, 1 loss and 12 knockouts.
