Kandi Wyatt won the WBA Intercontinental welterweight belt – World Boxing Association

Returning to the path of victory is a promising condition for any athlete who is not on a winning streak. On this occasion, the joy was on the Canadian side: Kandi Wyatt defeated British Kristie Bavington in a split decision on Friday night, March 10, under the lights of the Hangar Events Venue, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, United Kingdom. In doing so, Wyatt was crowned the new World Boxing Association Intercontinental Welterweight Champion. 

Wyatt, also known as “Krush”, had taken a career break of 1 year and 3 months. This comeback had great value for her being ranked 11th in the WBA 147 lbs. world rankings and her last loss being to the division’s unified champion, Jessica McCaskill, who held all the belts. That, by the way, McCaskill was seen on social media very attentive to this fight. 

Bavington, nicknamed “Bavvo,” was the favorite at the party, but, as she said moments later, it wasn’t her night. Wyatt came out determined, with little analysis, from the first round. With very close rounds where a hand or a better finish made the difference in favor of one or the other boxer, both provided an attractive sporting show for the audience. Krush knew how to apply the experience she carries with her at the age of 31 and Bavvo, at 30, showed her skill set plus an experience that will help her to keep growing.

On the other hand, Bavington, also applauded by an entire stadium, finished with a record of 7 wins with 2 knockouts, 3 losses and 2 draws.
