Mbilli defends his WBA regional belt against Gongora on Thursday  – World Boxing Association

Frenchman Christian Mbilli will make the first defense of his Word Boxing Association (WBA) international super middleweight title on Thursday against Ecuadorian Carlos Gongora at the Montreal Casino in Canada.

The undefeated Mbilli is 27 years old and a native of Cameroon, although he has French nationality. He has been the regional champion of the pioneer organization since last September when he defeated DeAndre Ware to win the belt.

He returned to the ring in December for a non-title fight in France in which he defeated Vaughn Alexander by unanimous decision. Now, he will return to Canada, just where he won the belt and aims to retain it against a strong and experienced opponent.

Góngora, 33, is a good southpaw puncher who is looking for his chance and knows that a win here would bring him closer to a big fight. The South American has faced good fighters and has passed important tests in his career, making him a dangerous challenger.

Mbilli has 23 wins, no losses and 20 knockouts, while Góngora comes into the fight with 21 wins, 1 loss and 16 knockouts.
