Hyunmi Choi in search of the WBA Gold Lightweight belt against Jessica Camara  – World Boxing Association

On April 27th, Hyunmi Choi from South Korea will face Jessica Camara from Canada at the Ajou University in Suwon, South Korea, for the World Boxing Association Lightweight Gold belt.

Choi was world super featherweight champion for 10 years, then was declared on medical leave at the beginning of 2023, now, Choi returns to the ring in a new weight class.

Choi lost her status as the reigning 130-pound champion when she missed the mandatory fight against Alycia Baumgardner, who eventually ended up taking all the belts in February 2023.

After recovering, Choi returned to the ring in May 2023 and did so at 140 pounds by beating Argentinean Maria Maderna in her hometown of Suwon.

On the other hand, Camara is a natural fighter at 135 and 140 pounds. Her last performance was on December 10, 2009, when she defeated Estefania Orozco Oliva by technical knockout in the fourth round.

This experienced Canadian has an extensive amateur background and outstanding professional performances that have brought her to the present. She has 12 wins with 3 knockouts and 4 losses.

Choi will come into the bout as the most experienced with 21 wins with 5 knockouts and 1 draw. She has yet to taste defeat in her career and hopes to make a place for herself among the best in the 135 ranks.
