Three of a kind of the boxer Vittorio Panariello, from Naples, got the qualification to the 2008 Olympic Games in Peking due to his victory at the tournament in Athens this past April or third place against the Slovak Rudolf Dydi in the bantamweight category at 54 kgs.
Parrinello, from the team Pugilistica Matesina of Piedimonte Matese under teacher Geppino Corbo’s guide and now in the Group Sporting Army, is added to already qualified heavyweight Clemente Russo at 91 kgs and lightweight Domenico Valentino at 60 kgs, both of Marcianise, near Naples.
This is an exceptional result with four of the six qualified athletes from Italy coming from the Campania region considering that flyweight Vincenzo Picardi at 51 kgs is also from Naples.
The other two qualified boxers are super heavyweight Roberto Cammarelle at over 91 kgs and featherweight Alessio di Savino at 57 kgs.
“Our province, it is by now the most important reservoir in Italy for this discipline of boxing,” said President of Coni Caserta, Michele De Simone. “I surely await a meaningful performance from our boxers in China”.
