Saturday 21 June, at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, England, sees the much anticipated clash between Michael Gomez and Amir Khan in a Sports Network / Frank Warren promoted fight night.

Gomez, fighting out of Bobby Rimmer’s Fight Academy, Stalybridge, Manchester – is looking for the best birthday present ever – successfully defeating Bolton’s Khan.

Khan, who now trains under Dean Powell, will be looking for his 18th professional win and fourth defence of his Commonwealth Lightweight title in front of a sell-out crowd.

SaddoBoxing spoke to Bobby Rimmer this morning regarding the fight:

“I can’t sleep!” Rimmer announced excitedly, “I can’t stop thinking about the fight and it’s keeping me awake! I’m feeling very confident about this one – the training has gone fantastic and Mike is in the shape of his life.

“He feels like concrete – his body is so solid! Everything has gone according to plan, he’s just a pound over at the minute with five days to go. Mike’s kept his cool and is just waiting for the night.”

Undercard bouts on Saturday night feature: Commonwealth Light Middle Champ Bradley Pryce against Marcus Portman, English Middleweight titlist Paul Smith versus Steve Bendall in a British title eliminator, light middleweight Curtis Woodhouse, welterweight debutante Joe Selkirk, super flyweight Don Broadhurst and light middleweight Thomas Costello.
