As well as the main bout between Danny Williams and John McDermott at Dagenham last night, there was also a full bill of undercard contests.

Featherweight Akaash ʽKash the Bashʼ Bhatia, 12-0 (3), of Harrow scored a third round stoppage over Somerset’s John Vanemmenis, 1-4-1 (0), in a quick-paced fight.

Delivering a combination of shots which sent his opponent toppling unsteadily off balance, Bhatia notched up his twelfth win keeping his perfect record.

South African bantamweight Tshifhiwa Munyai lost his unbeaten record when he was defeated by Edmonton based Ghanaian southpaw Osumanu Akava, 11-4 (8), at featherweight.

Former Commonwealth Champion Munyai – who was down in the second round – was defeated 79-75 in an eight rounder by a stronger looking Akava, who was coming off a close loss for the Commonwealth Featherweight title to Paul Truscott in May.

Popular welterweight Chas Symonds, 14-1 (5), of Croydon defeated hair-braided Alex Spitko, 4-6 (3), of Mansfield in Symonds’ second fight back after a three year ring absence.

It was an action-packed contest between these two with both men landing punches, but it was Symondsʼs left hooks which marked the end of a tired looking ʽPitbullʼ Spitko, who was stopped in Round three.

Unbeaten Commonwealth Light Welterweight Champion Ajose Olusegun, 24-0 (12), defeated iron-chinned France based Romanian Mihaita Mutu, 23-14-2 (9), 60-54 after six rounds in a non-title fight .

Belfast heavyweight Scott Belshaw, 9-1 (7), avenged his only loss by beating Russia’s Daniel Peret, 13-17 (4), in a six round rematch to their initial bout in March.

Super feather prospect Gary Sykes, 9-0 (3), of Dewsberry, outpointed tough native South African Harry Ramagoadi, 18-9-2 (4), 60-54 after six frames.

Light welter journeyman Billy Smith, 12-72-1 (0), of Stourport put up a great fight against popular Welshman Gavin Tait, 6-8 (3), of Sheerness, but it was Tait who gained the points win over his last minute opponent, 39-37.

Welterweight Scott Woolford, 8-1 (1), scored a points win over Walsallʼs Jimmy Beech, 10-19 (2), 40-36 after four rounds.

Former Super Bantam British title challenger Sean ʽShort Fuseʼ Hughes won on points at featherweight over experienced West Midlands boxer Delroy Spencer, 10-70-3 (1), 40-36, after four rounds.

Light heavyweight prospect Tony Bellew, 5-0 (3), outpointed London based Ghanaian Ayitey Powers, 13-15-1 (9), after four rounds by a score of 40-37.
