Batyrgaziev Dominates Cruz, Successfully Defends WBA Interim Title – World Boxing Association

Albert Batyrgaziev proved once again why he’s one of the most formidable forces in the super featherweight division, successfully defending his WBA Interim World Title with a commanding unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Argentine prospect Neri Cruz Romero.

From the opening bell, the Russian southpaw—an Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo 2020—set the pace with a relentless mix of volume punching and pinpoint accuracy. Cruz Romero, known for his aggressive style and punching power, tried to apply pressure, but Batyrgaziev’s airtight defense and sharp counterpunching kept him at bay.

As the fight progressed, Batyrgaziev took full control, landing crisp combinations that wore down his challenger. By the championship rounds, the Argentine was running on fumes, while Batyrgaziev seemed to be flirting with a stoppage. In the end, the scorecards told the story of a one-sided affair: 118-110, 119-109, and 120-108, all in favor of the defending champion.

With this victory, Batyrgaziev improves to 12-0 (8 KOs), further cementing his status as one of the top rising stars in the super featherweight division.
