This past weekend, WBA President Gilberto Jesús Mendoza kicked off his tour of South America, making his first stop in Uruguay, where he attended an exciting fight night at the Radisson Victoria Plaza in Montevideo.
Mendoza was on hand to support Vicky Da Silva, a standout talent who first made her mark by winning the WBA Future Champions tournament in 2020 in Medellín, Colombia. Da Silva delivered a dominant performance, scoring a first-round knockout to secure her third professional victory.
Following the event, Mendoza emphasized the importance of sustained development and reaffirmed the WBA’s commitment to investing in the future of professional boxing.
Next Stop: Argentina for a Special Tribute
After his visit to Uruguay, the WBA president will travel to Argentina on March 15, where he will take part in a special tribute to WBA President Emeritus Dr. Gilberto Mendoza Sr., marking nine years since his passing.
In addition to honoring Mendoza Sr.’s legacy, the event will feature a WBA Kids tournament and tributes to several Argentinian boxing legends, including: Juan Coggi, Jorge Ocampo, Mirco Cuello, Alberto Melián and Mariano Carrera.
With these initiatives, the WBA continues to shape the future of the sport while celebrating the history and figures that have made boxing what it is today.
