Canelo and Inoue Set the Stage for a Historic Weekend in Boxing – World Boxing Association

From Friday, May 2nd through Sunday, May 4th, the boxing world is set for a massive weekend as three WBA world titles will be up for grabs. Superstar champions Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Naoya Inoue are both set to defend their belts, while Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Ryan García will clash for the vacant WBA welterweight crown.

The action kicks off Friday night with Ryan García and Rolly Romero stepping into the ring under the bright lights of Times Square, New York City. García (24-1), fresh off a controversial bout against Devin Haney, is eager to remind everyone why he was once considered one of the brightest young stars in the sport. The California native will look to make a major statement against Romero.

Across the ring, Rolly Romero (16-2) will be hunting redemption. The Las Vegas fighter has dropped two of his last four bouts but remains a former WBA world champion with a fan-friendly, flashy style. Expect fireworks when these two dynamic talents square off.

Saturday belongs to none other than Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, the living legend, who heads to Saudi Arabia to defend his WBA Super Middleweight Super Championship against undefeated Cuban challenger William Scull. Scull (23-0) is aiming for a massive upset, but he faces one of the greatest and most adaptable fighters boxing has ever seen. Canelo has made a career out of neutralizing every style thrown his way.

And then, on Sunday night, the monster himself, Naoya Inoue, steps into the spotlight. Widely regarded as the pound-for-pound king of the last half-decade, Inoue returns to action at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to defend his titles against a hungry challenger in Ramón Cárdenas.

Cárdenas (26-1) hasn’t tasted defeat since 2017 and is riding a 14-fight win streak. He’ll be looking to shock the world — but standing in front of him is a generational talent who has dominated every division he’s touched.

Buckle up — it’s going to be a weekend packed with drama, high stakes, and bouts that boxing fans will remember for years to come.
