HBO Airs “Next Generation Boxing” This Saturday From San Juan

HBO Plus’ hard-hitting new boxing series, “Next Boxing Generation” will close out 2008 on Saturday, December 13, with a tripleheader featuring Puerto Rico’s finest in key bouts at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the main event of the evening, scheduled for 10 rounds, Vega Baja junior lightweight Roman Martinez risks his 20-0 (12) record and world ranking as he squares off against Colombian veteran Walter Estrada, 30-7 (20).

In the eight round junior welterweight televised special attraction is unbeaten Hector Sanchez, 16-0 (7), of Rio Piedras as he locks horns with Bogota, Colombia’s Wilson Alcorro, 26-10-3 (17).

In the televised co-feature, former World Flyweight Champion Eric Morel, 39-2 (20), continues his quest for another title as he returns to San Juan to take on perennial contender Ricardo “Chapo” Vargas, 39-13-3 (14), of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico in a 10 round bantamweight bout.

Unbeaten lightweight prospect Hylon Williams, 6-0 (1), who has yet to lose a round in his pro campaign, will take on Bayamon’s Carlos Diaz, 10-16-4 (7), in a six round contest. A six round junior lightweight bout features Marcos Jimenez, 14-1 (8), of Santo Domingo facing off against Jesus Perez, 25-22-3 (14), of Bogota, Colombia.

Toa Baja’s Eric Cruz, 5-1-1 (5), will face off against Guayaman’s Carlos Claudio, 8-4-1 (2), in a six round junior lightweight bout. Jose Gonzalez, 4-0 (2), of Toa Baja squares off against Enrique Quinonez, 4-7-1, (0), of Caguas in a four round junior welterweight contest. Bayamon’s Jovannie Santiago, 2-0 (1), will take on Toa Baja’s Michael Padilla, 2-0 (2), in a four round clash of unbeaten junior welterweights.

San Juan junior bantamweights Felix Perez, 6-1 (3), and Carlos Garcia, 0-2-1 (0), square off in a four rounder. Opening up the show is a four round junior lightweight bout between Bayamon’s Gamalier Rodriguez, 7-1 (3), and San Juan’s Carlos Perez, 7-8-1 (6).
